Cruise Prices This Week: 4 Ships Priced Low for Families

Weekly report, edition 2. Written from the Family Planner traveler archetype, one of the 14 we use; the lens rotates every week. Next week: First-Time Cruiser.

Base fares per person per night; taxes, port fees, gratuities and promotions are not included. Every number here is from our published data, priced October 6, 2026 at 08:09 UTC, across 208 ships and 710 sailings.

What moved in cruise prices this week

Market-wide balcony median, 61–120 days before sailing: $209 per night.

• Mexico is the lowest region we track, at $128 a night across 40 sailings, down 19% in seven days. The Caribbean, where most family ships sail, is at $190 across 257 sailings, down 7%.
• The big family lines split. MSC is down 8% to $156, while Carnival rose 28% to $190, Norwegian 17% to $181 and Royal Caribbean 3% to $212.
• The largest single-ship drops in the 61–120 day window: Discovery Princess down 67.6% to $145, Norwegian Viva down 53.5% to $183 and Serenade of the Seas down 49.4% to $155.

A reading is not a forecast. "Low for this ship" means today's balcony fare sits in the bottom quarter of that ship's own last 180 days, and says nothing about next week.

Four ships priced low for themselves

Same rule every week: the ship's balcony fare is in the bottom quarter of its own 180-day history, a specific sailing sits at least 30% under the ship's own 12-month median for that cabin type, one ship per cruise line, and the pick fits this week's archetype. For a Family Planner that means ships with kids' clubs and water parks, and nothing adults-only or ultra-luxury. All four sailings are more than 30 days out.

Carnival Venezia. Balcony median $146, 10th percentile against its own history, down 40.0% over seven days while Carnival as a line rose. January 3, 2027, seven nights in the Caribbean, oceanview at $59 a night, 47% under the ship's own 12-month oceanview median of $112. CDC sanitation score 95 (inspected June 18, 2026). From our ship profile: less ideal for "those seeking a quiet or luxury-focused experience." For a family that is fine: water slides and an IMAX theater for the kids, a Serenity retreat for the parents.

MSC World America. Balcony median $167, 24th percentile, down 2.7% on the week. Interior at $71 a night on November 28, 2026, seven nights in the Caribbean, 42% under the ship's 12-month interior median of $122. CDC score 95 (June 30, 2026). From our ship profile: less ideal for "those seeking a quiet and serene atmosphere." An extensive water park and a departure the Saturday after Thanksgiving make the family case.

Norwegian Epic. The widest gap, and a suite: $78 a night on November 29, 2026, seven nights in the Caribbean, 67% under the ship's 12-month suite median of $234, and under its own interior median of $137. Balcony median $234, 18th percentile, down 44.4% over seven days. CDC score 93 (March 29, 2026). From our ship profile: less ideal for "those seeking a quiet or intimate experience." A suite gives a family room to spread out; water slides and Broadway-style shows come with the fare.

Symphony of the Seas. The only balcony here: $102 a night on January 3, 2027, seven nights in Central America, 34% under the ship's 12-month balcony median of $153. Balcony median $142, 12th percentile, down 8.4% on the week. CDC score 98 (February 19, 2026). From our ship profile: less ideal for "those seeking a quiet and intimate cruise experience." The Ultimate Abyss, a surf simulator and an ice rink give teens somewhere to be.

Low, but not on the list. Icon of the Seas sits at its 1st percentile, with an oceanview at $175 on January 23, 2027, 31% under its $253 median; Symphony's gap is wider. Voyager of the Seas has a $36 interior on November 13, 2026, seven nights in Mexico, 64% under its $98 median.

What changed since last week

Of last week's four Deal Chaser picks, two still read low for themselves as of October 6: Carnival Freedom (balcony median $180, 14th percentile) and Sky Princess ($241, 15th percentile, though up 58.5% on the week). The other two moved out: MSC Seashore now reads high for itself ($149, 85th percentile) and Norwegian Joy reads typical ($273, 70th percentile).

The market-wide balcony median was $199 on September 22 and is $209 now. The Mediterranean, last week's lowest region at $137, is at $152; Mexico now sits at the bottom. The Caribbean went from $194 to $190. Princess went from $159 to $191 and Carnival from $157 to $190: the two lines that led last week's declines rose most.
